The beauty in the bust

So here I am in my friends computer room writing another pointless post but I have an excuse! I had a mini epiphany today. I've always wondered why boobs are so attractive to males (and lesbians), it just seems so odd to me, I mean they literally look like sacks of lard. However, A-level psychology always forces me to look at every possible cause, even considering the most simplistic possibilities. So it dawned on me, they are a visual representation of the females ability to feed offspring and provide for their young. Cavemen saw a voluptuous woman and thought "she can give my children nutrients" which has obviously been passed down from one generation to the next. Sorry, this does sound really gross but I just find it fascinating how everything, even an opinion can somehow be rooted back to an evolutionary/psychological function.

Style Icon: #1 Alexa Chung

You probably all saw it coming, she's every girl and her Nan's style icon but you can see why. She set the granny chic trend and completely transformed fashion today. She may not have done it single handed but in my eyes, she's the first person who properly pulled the look off. I watched her in awe when she was a presenter on T4, majorly envious of how well she pulled off such a unique haircut and still today I love her eye for up and coming trends, Mary Katranzou is now a household name all because of Alexa Chung.

Head Over Heels!

These are the heels I'm absolutely pining for! Their £80 from OFFICE but I reckon they're completely worth it because of the three colours involved. I'm not really a fan of brightly coloured heels, they just doesn't appeal to me but these stand out just as much an orange pair of platforms. Plus you could wear them with literally anything, the possibilities are endless! So really they're more of an investment than a dent in the savings... well at least that's what I'm telling myself.

Please don't take him just because you can

I've got an interview today, eek! Unbelievably nervous! I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. I through together a reasonably quirk outfit for the occasion. Peter pan collars are the cutest trend right now I reckon, this is just a little play on it.

Do you laugh just to think what I lack?

Sorry about the really crappy photos today! I usually try to do them in the morning for lighting purposes but I didn't have enough time today. My alarm clock decided to be a bit of a prankster and turn forward a week early. As soon as I realise I flopped straight back to bed. This jumpers rather unique, it has a knit front and a sheer back. I really like it though, it's quite unexpected.

I've got a university interview tomorrow, wish me luck!

Why don't you open up we'll talk, I am ready, I am ready for a fall

This was the outfit I wore to take my Mum out for Mother's Day. She's not the sort that likes gifts much, she'll except them but she won't use them. So instead of getting her something she doesn't need I always take her out, my treat. Today we went to KFC, a pretty well establish fast food restaurant, and by golly did I miss it. I was 12 the last time I felt the spice of a popcorn chicken tantalise my taste buds and I can tell you  the next bite it was worth the 5 year wait. After KFC and I rekindled our love we went to see "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" which is now my favourite film of all time. Most scenes had the whole cinema in fits of laughter but others had us in floods of tears. It was an emotional roller-coaster but it was well worth the ticket.  I would definitely recommend seeing it, if not for the refreshing story line, then for the best cast ever put together. Literally every single actor starring in the film has one with an award for something.

Anyway, back to fashion. this dress has a pleated skirt, which doesn't seem to be showing up very well on camera (it is there though, trust). I bought it quite a while back because of its versatility, you can were it on a normal day out dressed down with a knit cardi, or on a girly one with a pair of heels. A day to night job.

Disney's a Dick

As a child I was a dreamer,
but it was always the same dream.
I dreamt of a guy.
He was edgy, cool, deep.
Everything I would ever need.

As a teen, I met my dream,
I had to stop in my tracks
as he gazed at me, Dumb struck.
We both new.
This was it.

Months passed
 but we'd always tread carefully,
scared to pierce the veneer.
One touch and it would be over...
but needs took over.

So he leaned in
and we kissed.
"Where are the fireworks?" I thought
but I ignored it.

As an adult, I know I let him win,
I let him walk away
with my pride in one hand,
my heart in the other.

Honestly, I don't miss him
but I do miss my naivety.
Because now I know the truth,
frogs come in Prince like packages
and most dreams are crushed.

To bob or not to bob?

Alexa Chung

Being the impulsive girl that I am, the idea of a bob has become really tempting recently. I love the idea of an Alexa Chung style do, it's really cool and effortless. So what do you think? Should I take the plunge or stick to my long locks?

You won't fool the children of the revolution

The one bad thing about blogging with photos is that you notice all the things you forgot to do in the morning... sorry about the shiny nose. I stayed round a friends house last night so this outfit is the product of a few things chucked into a bag. Hopefully it didn't suffer to much. Today -as per usual- I attended 6th form but on the plus side I only had two lessons so I was able to do a bit of shopping mid-afternoon. Only bought a few thing though, this necklace, a birthday card and that mood ring (couldn't resist. Apparently I was feeling excited during this photo). Can't really afford to spend lavishly with Mother's Day looming.

As you can tell the whole collar trend has really influenced me. I really like how edgy it looks and it looks rather classy, win  win.

Shirt With Cut Sleeves: DIY + my mums
Cardigan: Topshop
Trousers: Zara Basics
Necklace: H&M
Watch: Gift
Bangle: Gift
Mood Ring: British Heart Foundation

If you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones

This outfit was worn to school and a friend's music recital (which she totally rocked btw). It needed to be smart (silly 6th form dress code) yet going outish, hopefully I achieved a happy medium.
I'm loving the whole gold chocker trend at the moment but, like most people, I don't really enjoy following trends exactly as they come. So I buy items that add my own twist, hence the white and gold pattern. Another trend which I don't particular like straight off the barrel is leopard print, it's too... over done? Personally I think it's lost its class (no offence intended). However, I do really like leopard print flats, their not too obvious. That's always a really good move, if you don't like a trend very much but you like it in small doses, try a shoe or nail polish version.

But when the stars are the only thing we share, will you be there?

Hey everyone,

I had four lessons today so it seemed practical to dress for comfort. I don't know about you but I just can't stand sitting for a long time whilst wearing restricting clothing, baggy tops all the way. Horizontal stripes are a must for me at the moment, although they make you seem wider there's something really classy yet relaxed about them. It's probably because of the French, they've always been stereotypically stylish and stripes are  just classically French (viva la France!). In terms of colour scheme, navy and beige is one of my favourite combinations, it's not too out there and really works in the transition from winter to spring.

Style Icon: #2 Mary-Kate Olsen

The penultimate winner of my style icon title has to be, no other than, Mary-Kate Olsen. I remember watching her show " Two of a Kind" in fits laughter, begging my Mum to buy their really cool fridge (I was a weird child) and reading all their books wishing I was a twin... Now she's all grown up and I'm still jealous. Why? because she doesn't look like your average "each strand of hair must be in place" celebrity, all her outfits seem effortless and have that wear-ability factor.

I also really admire her for pushing through some incredibly tough times. Mary-Kate and her sister have faced a long battle with anorexia and I'm not too sure if they have fully beaten it yet. If the eating disorder wasn't enough, she also found Heath Ledger, a good friend of hers, dead in his apartment, I can only imagine how traumatic that must of been... One thing's for sure, she's a fighter.

Lots of Love,

jueves, 8 de marzo de 2012

And you wondered why I'm guarded,
why I could never let you in,
why my love quickly departed,
why I chose a life of sin.

Truthfully, I was scared,
terrified of what you could do
because the past had my heart completely teared
but with one piece left for you

You took that piece and crushed it
you grew tired of my cold shoulder.
you couldn't fight for me anymore
and with that, damn it, my heart grew founder

I get so caught up on those who've hurt me
that eventually they all do
because no one can wait around
for the girl who needs forever, especially not you

Regrets, I've Had a Few: #1 Rimmel Mascaras

I love posts like this because there's nothing worse than spending a ton of money on a product that's less than satisfactory. Of course, it has to be taken with a pinch of salt, everyone has different tastes, but it's nice to have a general idea of what to avoid. My first post in this series is (obviously) about rimmel mascaras. Yes they are a very popular brand but I really don't think they've delivered.

From the moment I unscrew a mascara I can tell whether or not I'll like it. The rubbish ones have an almost  liquid like consistency that's all gloppy at the tip. And that's exactly what almost every rimmel mascara's like  (that I've tried). So what's my big problem? They clump your lashes so that you look like you've just got out the bath, the ends of your lashes appear to bend into a black blob, and the big brushes give your eyelids a nice coating too.

It has to be said, I haven't had this with all rimmel mascara's. "Sexy curves" and "lash accelerator" didn't give me the wet lashes look, they worked rather well. So I've come to the conclusion that the weird effects of the formula can be overcome if you buy a mascara with a rubber brush (lash accelerator has a different formula) or just avoid their brand.

Please do note that this is purely my opinion, conjured from my past experiences. I guess you'd have to see for yourself. Maybe it's just my lashes?

Until next time,

I confess I wasn't perfect but you're old enough to know

Don't worry I'm not a moody cow! A friend of mine pointed out that I've yet to smile in my  pictures, you must all think I'm miserable! But don't fret, all is well, I just got a bit carried away with the grumpy grunge vibe.

On another note, today we had an R.E conference on abortion. It was all very heated and brought to light a few things. Did you know that a feotus has a heartbeat at 4 weeks, yet legally you can have an abortion at anytime prior to 24 weeks? It's a nasty thought, still, even though I am more pro-life than pro-choice I have to admit it would be really difficult to keep a child at the tender age of 17... Sorry about going all deep on you but I feel it's a topic we generally put to the side when we shouldn't. I mean do you agree with the law that the father doesn't even have the right to be TOLD about the baby? Or that disabled babies can be aborted after birth? It's shocking. So in essence, it would be cool if you read up about it, just to see how messed up some of the abortion laws are.

One of my closest friends, Balley (or Becky formally) actually raises similarly heated topics on her blog. She's really analytic -just like me- so her posts are always well thought out and generally, a really good read. You should definitely check her out!

Haul #1

If you're a keen reader of my blog you'd already know that I went shopping today. I thought I'd give you a little insight into all the beauty goodies I bought as I've yet to do a real beauty post on here. The foundation I bought was rather expensive but I thought it may be worth it, keep you posted on that one.

Not sure if this happens to anyone else but all of the key pieces to my beauty regime run out at the same time, leaving me in a rather difficult financial situation. Do I A stop washing my face etc or B break the bank... times are hard! As you can tell I went for the latter. But oh well my regime will live to see another day.

Today I went shopping for the first time in forever! I know it sound weird but seeing a clothes display -racks and all- makes me unbelievably happy. It gets my heart racing, my hands clapping and my eyes rapidly scanning the isles. It's such a key therapeutic experience, a lack of shopping actually gives me the grumps. So it was such a relief to just splurge!
