Style Icon: #4 Emma Watson

"My idea of being sexy is less is more, the less you reveal the more people can wonder"- Emma Watson. That says it all, she depicts class whilst still looking effortlessly stylish. And who doesn't want to aspire to that? It's true, getting your baps out whilst using a belt as a skirt leaves no room for the imagination and it doesn't do much for your reputation either. With that in mind, I see Emma as a really positive role model and  the epitome of a style icon.

Lots of Love,

Racism

Today a really serious topic regrettably came to my attention; racism. In my opinion it's ridiculous and if anyone uses the race card in an effort to belittle others they are only unmasking their own ignorance.

A persons ethnicity has absolutely no impact on the way they handle situations or choose to act. It's purely the way they were brought up and their past experiences. Yes we naturally make generalizations but that does not mean we should use these "stereotypes" to produce negative stigma or even hatred towards a certain group. You may have seen a couple of white people wearing tracksuits and starting fights but that does not mean every white person on the planet is a thug. See how stupid that is? So why even bother to use another persons race as a criticism?

If anything the racism I saw today showed just how silly it all is. A Spanish woman had the audacity to complain about  my friends driving and considering she was a new driver it was rather stupid. What do you expect from someone who hasn't had that much experience? But she approached us calmly, no yelling or even aggressive body language, she merely spoke her mind. Although I do not agree with the comments she made, I do respect her for the way she tackled the situation.

Much to my dismay she was still open to racial prejudice and it sickened me. Yes she had an accent, yes she wasn't English but does that mean she should be stunned into silence? Does that mean she should be mocked? No, she's a human being with manners, race doesn't have anything to do with it.

And to be quite frank, even if she yelled and threw her fists in the air she could have easily have been a white woman, maybe even a black woman. There is absolutely no cultural code that states every single person who acts rudely is from a certain race. Race has nothing to do with it.

No one should be ashamed about where they come from and I'm not trying to suggest that. But do you think people CHOOSE where they're from? Do you think there is some sort of SIMS character selection process before birth? There bloody well isn't. And people should not be made to feel insecure because of something they cannot handle. I have heard about a little girl trying to cut her skin off because of taunts for being black. She felt so ASHAMED of her skin colour, she risked bleeding to death to change it. Over something she did not choose and cannot change. She was treated terribly, as though she was being a horrible person but no, she was merely born.

I did not make this post to offend people or cause any sort of debate. I just wanted to make people think. Think before you negatively generalize. Think before you offend someone for something out of their control. Think before speak.

May there be peace on earth (tehe),
Tam

Road trip baby!

Hola peeps!

Just to fill you in on the past few days, I thought I'd put in a few pictures. It was the first time we'd gone away without having to use public transport or our parents (they call themselves unpaid taxi drivers) and it was so nice to feel independent! We had the top down cruising along the country lanes, movie star style, which was actually my first time in a convertible! I would definitely recommend it if you need more voluminousness locks. Of course no "grown up" weekend away would be fully lived without a few childish activities, we went to this really quaint garden centre to see the animals , especially the cute little bunnies and to the park to fly accross the ever so scary zip wire. Overall a rather fun, relaxed week. How were your half-terms, did you get up to anything exciting?

Love,
Tam

Does his love make your head spin?

Hello my lovelies!

As you all know today is Valentine's Day. Notice the couples filling every restaurant and hearts decorating every single shop, even the tiny newsagents. It's a dreaded day for us singletons, every corner turned has something to remind us that we're alone. But should it really be like this? Is being single really a death sentence? I think not. To be honest I feel like everyone and everything suspects this should be the most depressing day of the year for me, but it isn't. You cannot find someone with a click of a finger because to be honest if love was that easy to find, it wouldn't be worth looking for. So every lonesome Valentine's Day should be a triumph, you're not settling for just anybody to feel a little bit of comfort, you're waiting for the real deal.

Here's some items I saw whilst online shopping, wear them proud single ladies, cause
you're heart's still up for grabs.

Lots of love,
Tam

Style Icon: #5 Shenae Grimes

Yo!

With the new series rekindling my love for 90210 (it's so addictive right?!) it's no surprise that I have noticed Annie's incredible style, both on-screen and off-screen. She showcases both class and boho chique which is rather hard to master, so hats off to her! And I think I've cracked the secret, she seems to tousle her hair to give a relaxed feel, whilst wearing classy and fashionable pieces, giving everything she wears a "wearable quality". She was the inspiration behind my ombred hair and actually made me feel cool about having curly locks, back when I had no idea about who I was. So thank you Shenae for helping me feel confident within myself and for being a true style icon.

Lots of Love,

Ps. This is my last post today, promise!

Please, Please, Please! Wishlist #1

Hey hey hey,
Two posts in one day? You can tell I've put today aside to study... that really is not going to happen. NEWS FLASH! I have found the new ASOS, modcloth.com. I cannot stop thinking up outfits, this one above being a prime example. Everything on Modcloth's stock is so retro yet wearable, it's addictive. The downside is I'm saving up for a holiday, why do you have to find the must-haves when you're money's on a padlock? and the worst part is it does seem affordable, well, Topshop prices... grr.

So for all of you that need a little splurge after exam stress, this is the PERFECT site.

Love,

New Found Obsession: Company Magazine

Hello everyone,

Hope you're all having a lovely half term (even though were only a day in). I thought I'd share my love for Company magazine with you all before you're so caught up with exams that you can't even read the title. It's visually enticing and the articles are beautifully poignant with puns peppered  across every page. I would definitely recommend buying it, it's practically tailor made for every single British teenager with an obsession with style. I guess i feel like it really gets us and it knocks down all boundaries, using curvier models of all races. I'm in love.

Retails at £2, released once a month.

Portfolio Photographs

Hello everybody!

A few months ago I needed to swiftly construct my portfolio for university. I had ten pieces of "good quality" work when I needed 20. I think you can see the predicament I was in. Of course my lovely best friends were quick to jump to the post. I had the idea of constructing outfits that would completely transform them and taking corresponding photographs (I'm taking Fashion Communication you see).We made a day of it, I dressed them all up and had a mini photo shoot. It was actually really fun and my friends quickly got into their characters! I'd definitely suggest having a go!

The Grunge Look:

The Vintage Look:

The Androgynous Look:

These were the best shots (well in my humble opinion). Hope you like them!

Today was non-school uniform day with a cops and robbers theme (well you wouldn't have guessed!). I was the only person who went all out, swag bag and all. Everyone else seemed to think the "undercover cop" was the ultimate costume. I just don't understand it, you'd think people would jump at the chance to dress up, hang loose and be someone else for the day but no. It seems we've lost touch with our inner-childs  or maybe it's just a distaste for fancy dress, who knows? Oh well, I love dressing up and if I'm the only one in a funky number next Halloween so. be. it.

Lots of love,
Tam
